Did you wonder who supplied our award plaques? The answer is Burton-based Generation Next partner Hardy Signs. Its managing director Nik Hardy chats to Generation Next marketing officer Jasmine Thompson about his company and involvement in our awards production.

Who are Hardy Signs and what services does it provide?

Hardy Signs is a multi-award-winning, professional, and digital signage company that provides quality products and services to a wide range of business sectors nationally and internationally.

Founded in 1993, we are fluent in every aspect of the signage industry and has established itself as a preferred supplier to national and international organisations.

From our manufacturing headquarters in Burton upon Trent, we design, manufacture and install signage to exact requirements.

I am proud to say that our team’s dedication has been awarded several “Manufacturer of the Year” awards. Ultimately, our growth has allowed us to keep very close links with our local communities across the Midlands.

How were you involved in the Generation Next Awards 2021 and what goods did you provide?

Supporting young talents is one of our guiding principles. Led by that, we partnered with Generation Next and sponsored The Community Award.

We were commissioned to manufacture the award plaques for the inaugural Generation Next Awards. Seven clear acrylic plaques mounted to a white supporting panel were produced at our HQ in Burton Upon Trent for seven worthy winners. The plaques are manufactured from 100% biodegradable material and we hope that the winners will love them as we do.

It is vital that manufacturers nowadays employ environmentally friendly machines, materials and processes. You can see how we do this at Hardy Signs here.

How was it being on the awards set?

Being on the set was an excellent opportunity to meet the Generation Next team and the other partners. We enjoyed the modern stage, which makes a change from most of the awards ceremonies. Congratulations to all involved! I will make sure to bring my specs next time!

As you know, Generation Next is a support network for young professionals based in the East Midlands. What advice would you give your younger self?

My advice to young professionals in the East Midlands is to not be afraid in the first years of your career or when you start your business. Be tenacious and prepared to work 24/7 in the first few years to build solid foundations. Do what it takes to succeed and seek advice from those who are already successful. Be proud of the innovation and diversity in the East Midlands and keep that with you throughout your career.

Generation Next is a support network for young professionals aged between 18 and 35 based in the East Midlands. Its membership package gives young workers access to its events programme – which connects delegates with likeminded individuals, as well as leading business professionals from across the region, to build their networks and skills.
