The war in Ukraine has left people asking what they can do to support its people during this time.
Many charities and global organisations have launched global appeals. But with so much noise, it’s difficult to know where your efforts are best placed.
My fellow board members and I have put together some information for our members interested in supporting appeals for the country, including donation points around our region.
Should you wish to make a monetary donation, the British Red Cross has set up a crisis appeal. Your donation could help someone affected access food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes and shelter.
You can also support the #HelpUkraine Emergency Appeal, which has been set up by the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB).
The appeal is raising funds to provide accredited and registered Ukrainian charities with medicine, food and vital services. Donations can also pay for blankets, hygiene packs and trauma counselling.
In a fantastic show of community spirit, a number of drop-off points have been organised across the region for lorries to be loaded with donations of food, toiletries and first aid items.
Items required include; basic first aid; pain killers; protein bars; tinned and packet food; toiletries; feminine hygiene products; tools; warm clothing; nappies; torches and camping equipment.
