Commenting on confirmation that Rishi Sunak is officially the new Prime Minister, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) chief executive Scott Knowles said: “We congratulate Rishi Sunak on his appointment as Prime Minister. The uncertainty and market turmoil of the past few months has created difficulties for businesses and the country as a whole.

“We need the new PM to move quickly in forming a Government that can introduce costed policies to give immediate reassurance to businesses, which are facing significant cost pressures that risk crippling their ability to succeed.

“In due course, we need to hear a detailed longer-term economic plan that can provide stability in decision-making, giving assurance to businesses that in recent times have had to endure a constant chopping and changing in policy direction.

“Among other things, this needs to support businesses with recruiting the right people for growth, investing in their own growth aspirations and expanding internationally. The Chamber is due to visit Westminster later in November to launch our own Business Manifesto for Growth and we look forward to engaging the PM and his team in this work.”
