Benjamin Wileman, leasing consultant at Select Car Leasing Burton-on-Trent, speaks to Jasmine Thompson about how Generation Next’s networking opportunities have helped him stay better connected across the East Midlands.

Tell us about the business you work for and your role within it?

Select Car Leasing is the largest and leading car and commercial vehicle leasing broker in the UK. We take immense pride in this business and work with integrity, honesty, and dedication to exceed our customer expectation.

The Burton-on-Trent office is one of 10 appointed representative offices across the UK and the only office based in the East Midlands. We have numerous clients ranging from one-off personal customers to companies with fleets of several vehicles.

As a leasing consultant, my personal role in the business is to provide a five-star customer service by helping clients identify and choose the right vehicle and contract dependent upon their needs and requirements.

This requires knowledge of vehicles from all manufacturers, the ability to easily communicate the key details of a vehicle lease, along with an understanding of all criteria needed for all the major finance lenders in the UK.

This focus and drive has led to Select Car Leasing having a 4.9 to five Trustpilot rating with more than 30,000 reviews.

Why did you sign up to Generation Next membership?

I joined Generation Next as a member in November 2021 after attending a couple events, as it was seen as a perfect opportunity to grow my current network within the East Midlands area.

Being born and raised in South Derbyshire, I am extremely proud of the East Midlands for its history and its thriving business community and so being able to be a part of that with people in my age bracket was an opportunity we saw as too good to turn down.

Which Generation Next events  have you have attended and what was your experience like?

The events which Generation Next host are not only great ways to meet similar, likeminded individuals but are also held in a friendly, exciting, and most importantly, non-intimidating way, which means that everyone is able to join-in.

My personal favourite event which I have attended was the 2022 Awards at Bustler Market in Derby in July of last year. It was inspiring to see all the nominees and winners, who provide so much business-wise for the local area be recognised for their incredible efforts over the previous 12 months, held in a venue which has been incredibly successful since it’s launch and now one of my go-to locations in Derby city centre while out socially.

I would whole-heartedly recommend anyone who is interested in becoming a member to visit one of the events to get a taste of this fantastic network and the opportunities that it provides.

How has the support you’ve received from the events programme been useful to your career development and current job role?

Generation Next has introduced me to key decision-making individuals from some of the largest businesses in the East Midlands, and has provided me with opportunities to supply vehicles which I may not have had prior to joining.
