A course by Nottingham Trent University (NTU) will provide local businesses with the tools to upskill their employees and grow their workforce by accessing diverse graduate talent.

The Inclusive Recruitment course, part of the European Social Fund (ESF) Reskill & Recover Project, focuses on embedding principles of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) into recruitment approaches, enabling participants to adopt more accessible and inclusive hiring methods.

The programme has been developed by early career experts, specifically for SMEs, at various stages of their EDI journey.

Delivered through a blend of tutor-led input, group discussions and hands-on activities, the course aims to support organisations to attract, select and retain diverse talent.

Open to businesses across all industries, it’s also a great opportunity for participants to connect with other professionals focused on EDI and share best practice.

Sandra McEvoy, HR assistant of Treetops Hospice, who completed the programme in April 2023, said: “I learnt so much from completing this course. On both a personal and professional level I’m more aware of ED&I, I appreciate the challenges all groups of people face when applying for vacancies, even after they’ve secured a position. It gave me insight and made me reflect as a person and on a professional level on what we could do better.

“My training will benefit Treetops Hospice in many ways. As a member of the HR team and the ED&I Working Group, I now feel confident to ensure that ED&I is being implemented in all aspects of recruitment, training and development, and retention of staff and that we are taking all the necessary measures to reach out to all. Completing the course gave me that knowledge and confidence.”
