Ingenuity in practice: creative solutions to business challenges

David is currently a part-time Professor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation within the University of Nottingham ‘s Business School where he lectures and mentors in entrepreneurship, IP commercialisation and innovation. He is also an Entrepreneur in Residence (under the UK’s Small Business Charter) actively supporting a number of early-stage companies across the UK at both strategic and operational levels.

As well as his expertise in academia and professional training, David also has a wealth of practical entrepreneurial experience gained in the UK and New Zealand from starting and running his own innovative businesses and social enterprises. He has first-hand experience raising start-up funds ($multiM), growing effective, multi-disciplinary teams, and completing $multiM licensing deals with a FTSE100 plc.
Although his degrees were in engineering and artificial intelligence, he has set-up / run start-ups in a variety of sectors ranging from satellite navigation and geospatial engineering to professional CPD (enhancing employability skills for UK civil servants) and commercialising new food ingredients.

Simon is Director of the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Visiting Professor at Ghent University. He is editor of the Journal of Technology Transfer and his research interests address technology entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education and building a culture of innovation. He is co-author of the popular books, Ingenuity and Building an Entrepreneurial Organisation and has published his research within leading academic journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Research Policy, Journal of Management Studies, Academy of Management Learn ing & Education and periodicals such as the Washington Post and the Financial Times. He is chair of the award winning Young Entrepreneurs Schemes that have developed the entrepreneurial skills of over 5000 academic researchers. Simon has held research and management posts at BP and Courtaulds.

Dr. Chris James Carter is an Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Nottingham University Business School (NUBS). With an academic background in Occupational Psychology and the Digital Economy, Chris holds research interests in digital entrepreneurship, reputation management, entrepreneurial creativity, enterprise education and social media research ethics. He is especially interested in how individuals, and in particular nascent entrepreneurs, engage in innovative and creative entrepreneurial activity through social media. Chris is currently Co-Director of MSc Entrepreneurship Programmes at Nottingham University Business School and External Examiner for the MA in Creative Media Enterprises at Warwick University, having previously held the role of NUBS Ethics Officer in addition to Co-Chair of the Organisational Psychology Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management. Chris has also provided consultancy services for an extensive range of clients, including The Open University, Coventry University, Loughborough London University, the Academy of Management Learning & Education Journal, the EPSRC Digital Economy Network and a number of start-up enterprises in the East Midlands.
