What to expect

“Think like an entrepreneur” is a command often given to young people working in businesses who are looking to climb the career ladder.

But no professional trajectory is straightforward and, along the way, most of us will encounter some adversity.

What is entrepreneurial thinking, and how can it be used by not just business owners but employees at every stage of their career, from entry-level through to senior leadership positions?

And how can adversity be overcome to make a success of our professional and personal lives?

Jon Watts

Chef

As a teenager Jon ended up in prison with a six and a half year sentence. Whilst he was there he learnt to cook as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and went on to become the first person in custody to achieve all three awards.

He was employed by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver with whom he spent 5 years working for before starting out on his own.

Jon set up his own catering company which saw him cooking for celebrities and even royalty, as well as taking on multiple catering contracts, including for popular television show the X Factor.
In 2020, with the coronavirus pandemic destroying the hospitality industry, Jon adapted in the best way he could. He built a reputation as one of the top recipe creators, leading to national recognition on prime time television shows, as well as a publishing deal with his first cookbook
being released in October 2023.
